Good Eats: Restaurants in North Edmonton
Those who live in the north part of Edmonton know there are plenty of great restaurants throughout the area. Best of all, you’ll find a lot of cuisine styles, so it’s easy to try something new if that’s what you’re in the mood for. Break the habit of going out to the same old restaurants by trying one (or all!) of these tasty north Edmonton gems.
Nagoya Japanese Cuisine
Let Nagoya Japanese Cuisine be your go-to choice when it comes to sushi. They have all of your favourite varieties along with some you may not have tried. If you’re on a date or in a group, order one of the sushi combos or sushi boats. The presentation alone is worth it. Even those who aren’t fans of sushi can also find something they like on the menu – with savoury dishes such as ramen and Japanese-style barbecue. The bento boxes have a nice variety, with salad, soup, meat, sushi, and tempura.
Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza
At Blaze Fast-Fire’d Pizza, they’ll make the pizza right in front of your eyes, and it’ll be done in just a few minutes. This can be a nice choice for families because kids can have a basic pepperoni pizza while the parents can choose something a little more out-of-the-ordinary. While they do have a few locations around Edmonton, it’s quite a step up from a Pizza Hut or Dominos.
Allegro Italian Kitchen
Allegro Italian Kitchen is a bit closer to the downtown area than the other restaurants on our list, but if you’re looking for some great authentic Italian food, this is the place to go. All recipes are made in-house and from scratch, and there’s live piano music playing on Friday and Saturday evenings. This is a great location if you’re looking for a dinner spot before catching a show or game in the city.
Acajutla
Acajutla is also a bit closer to the downtown area, but you’re going to love trying this Mexican and El Salvadoran food. There are great appetizers like nachos and tostadas, soups and salads, tacos, and larger entrees for those with big appetites. If you’re coming here, you must try the pupusas. They’re everyone’s favourite dish. Top off your meal with an authentic Mexican (non-alcoholic) drink. Note, they’re closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Halong Bay Noodle House
Halong Bay Noodle House offers up traditional Vietnamese dishes for customers who want to dine in or take out. Obviously, they’re well-known for their noodle dishes, but there are also a variety of dishes from the grill. Vegetarians will be happy to know there’s plenty of variety for them as well. Be sure to order the onion cakes as an appetizer and the bubble milk for a fun treat.
Memphis Blues Barbecue House
If you have a good ol’ hankerin’ for some Southern barbecue, you have to head out to Memphis Blues Barbecue House. When the weather’s nice, there’s outdoor seating, but the inside is a great choice year-round. Meat-eaters will have a hard time deciding between the many options, but the meals are a great choice because they come with homemade coleslaw, BBQ pit beans, cornbread, and fries or potato salad. Coming with a crowd? Consider ordering one of their platters, which come with enough food to feed anywhere from four to 12 people.
Castle Bake
Castle Bake is a Middle Eastern restaurant, and it’s a bit of a hidden gem that has dine-in seating, takeout, and delivery. They offer reasonable prices, and vegetarians have plenty of delicious options. The falafel sandwich is a great lunchtime choice, but the platters are a great choice for any time of day. You can get a little taste of many different foods, and it comes with a heaping serving of freshly baked pita. Yum.
Yeg Burger
All burger enthusiasts should give Yeg Burger a try at least once, but you’ll probably want to come back again. The mouth-watering burgers are so big, it’s almost hard to hold onto them, and they have a few styles that go beyond your basic burger. Don’t forget to order a big plate of poutine to go alongside. With the kid-friendly selections on the kid’s menu – and, of course, the availability of the ever-popular French fries – this is a good place to bring the whole family.
